প্রণাম সেই মাহেন্দ্রক্ষণকে

মা কালীর আদিসূত্র সম্বন্ধে বলছে ব্রিটানিকা এনসাইক্লোপিডিয়া, "Kali’s origins can be traced to the deities of the village, tribal, and mountain cultures of South Asia who were gradually appropriated and transformed, if never quite tamed, by the Sanskritic traditions."

বহু গবেষণাতেই এই উল্লেখ আছে, একটু খুঁজলেই পাওয়া যাবে। যেমন পারপ্লেক্সিটি AI বলছে, "Kali's origin is best understood as tribal in nature, indigenous to India's mountainous or forested regions, evolving through cultural syncretism into a widely revered goddess in Hinduism. This view is supported by historical, mythological, and anthropological research rather than being solely a later Brahmanical creation".

খুঁজলে অনেক তথ্য পাওয়া যাবে। শ্রীকৃষ্ণ, জগন্নাথদেব প্রমুখ অনেক দেবতার মূর্তিই প্রাচীন ট্রাইবস থেকে জন্ম এমন অনেক সূত্র পাওয়া যায়। যদিও পৌরাণিক ব্যাখ্যা অন্য। কিন্তু মিথোলজি আর ইতিহাস তো এক নয়।

এ ছবি আমার কাছে তাই ব্রাহ্মণ্যবাদ বা সংস্কৃতায়নের বাইরে অনেক কিছু। ভারতের মাটির যে ব্যাখ্যা রবীন্দ্রনাথের কবিতায় আছে, "মার অভিষেকে এসো এসো ত্বরা/ মঙ্গলঘট হয়নি যে ভরা/ সবার পরশে পবিত্র করা তীর্থনীরে/ আজি ভারতের মহামানবের সাগরতীরে"।

তাই ওঁর প্রণাম হাজার হাজার বছর পেরিয়ে প্রাচীন সেই মাকেই প্রণাম, যাঁকে গভীর জঙ্গলে কোনো এক মাটির কাছাকাছি মানুষ খুঁজে পেয়েছিল, যে সংস্কৃত জানত না, বর্ণাশ্রম জানত না, ছুত-অচ্ছুত জানত না। প্রণাম সেই মাহেন্দ্রক্ষণকে।
